Rehearsing the Play
Dos and Don’ts
A few important things to
remember when bringing the play to life
Do speak SLOWLY, CLEARLY and LOUDLY.
Do think about your body language and facial
expression. Acting is not only about
learning lines – you are continuously using your body and your face to show
what is happening in your story.
Do focus your attention in the right place – the
audience, an object, an imaginary character, the space above the audience etc….
Do keep your focus.
If your character is sad, don’t giggle.
Do enjoy it and have fun!
Do learn your lines and practice, practice, practice!!!
Don’t speak with your back to the audience – it’s very
boring to watch.
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes……just carry on if you do.
Don't move your feet when you don't need to.
What am I doing Wrong?
Everyone sits in the audience to watch one person on stage. Take a phrase from the play and say it in your normal voice. Can we hear you OK? Can we see you OK? Can we understand you OK?
What's Wrong?
she has her back to the audience
I can't see her
she is moving her feet unnecessarily (no dancing!)
It is very distracting
she has her hand over her mouth
I can't hear her
she is talking very quickly
I don't understand what she is saying
she says she is scared but she looks relaxed
the actions don't match her emotions
she is talking very quietly
What can I do to say my phrase better?
Can you think of any more things we can do wrong on stage?
Vocabulary
back to the audience espalda hacia el público
unnecessarily innecesariamente
hand over her mouth la mano en la boca
don't match no cuadra
